A tiny thrill shot through her system
as she recognized the wolf gazing at her. The animal buried within them
all. A feral being that fascinated her on those few occasions she’d
witnessed his presence in Liam’s human form.
Most wolf shifters possessed two
states—human and wolf. If the human side lost control of a situation,
they turned into wolves. But Alphas had the ability to allow the wolf to
take over the human body.
In a lot of ways, that was what
frightened the weaker members of a pack the most—to see the wild animal
staring at them from a human’s eyes. She didn’t understand the fear—it
was okay to see human intelligence out of an animal’s eyes, but the
reverse terrified people.
This animal she liked and wanted to
encourage his attention. She licked her lips and smiled as he groaned.
Her world narrowed to his presence as he stepped closer. His chest
pressed against hers and she was forced to tilt her head back, scraping
the wall, to maintain eye contact.
“Not afraid of the big, bad wolf?” he
rasped as he bent to nibble on her ear.
Her knees weakened as his breath
caressed the skin along her neck. Warmth spread throughout her body and
she lost herself as his teeth scraped along her neck. Her wolf stirred
to life, adding an unexpected savage element to the mix.
No one had roused her inner animal
before. Usually her wolf slept, unless Corliss was in wolf form or
needed extra energy during a difficult healing. Her pack regarded that
as a submissive weakness, but right now there was nothing docile about
her wolf’s demands.
Action. Now. The wolf didn’t talk with
words. It was more of an intuitive exchange. And if she didn’t take
control soon, her wolf would. She’d prefer her first sexual experience
be as a human.
She slipped her hands under his coat
to glide across his shoulders. The fabric grated against the back of her
hand, unlike the smooth skin under her fingertips. Pulling strength from
her wolf, she shoved against him until he backed into the opposite cave
wall. On her toes, Corliss leaned against him and brushed her lips
against his.
“I’m not afraid of your wolf,” she
teased. “I’m hoping he wants to play.” A gentle nip of his lower lip and
she sashayed down the hall. “Are you coming?” she asked over her
shoulder before entering the main chamber.
His growl echoed after her and
intensified the heat sparked by his touch. Her lips curled into a smile,
pleased she could elicit a response from him. “So you’re not indifferent
to me after all,” she growled in a soft, alluring voice.
“I’ve always known where you are,
Corliss,” Liam whispered in her ear as he wrapped an arm around her
waist and pulled her against his body. Pulling her hair back in his
other fist, he said, “I can’t believe you’re finally mine.” Then he
kissed her with all the passion of his wolf.
Corliss surrendered to his kiss. Their
tongues dueled as he held her in place. Not that she wanted to get away.
She nicked her tongue against his pointed canines and gasped as he
started sucking at the cut.
